Carmen Tu -Hi Benjamin! These pictures are amazing. You did a wonderful job documenting your trip. May I ask when you went and how long you guys were out there for? How recent was the snowfall because the thickness of the snow on the trees in the forest looks incredible. I want to plan a trip myself, so I’m trying to do some research to gain some insight. Also, how are the hiking conditions and how deep was the snow?
Lastly, I just want to comment on your friend in the orange coat with the TLR camera around his neck. Kudos to him! I tried to shoot with my Pentax Spotmatic up in Hunstville last winter, and the shutter kept freezing up.ReplyCancel
benjaminwong -Hi Carmen, Thank you for your wonderful comments!
To answer your questions, this weekend trip was taken in early November 2018. There was no snow when we arrived on Friday afternoon and it was actually raining a bit. The overnight snow accumulation that you see in the photos isn’t very much but it was enough to make everything look beautiful. Hiking was easy as we could still see the trail underneath the snow.
With regards to your freezing Spotmatic; If the meter was still working and the shutter simply was not releasing, then it might mean the mechanism needs new lubrication or perhaps store the camera inside your jacket to keep it warm and cozy. A quick google search returned quite a few hits on ‘jammed shutters’ so that might indicate that the Spotmatic may inherently be susceptible to stalled shutters.ReplyCancel
